Broken Democracy: Election Challenges and Consequences During COVID-19
Professor Stephanopoulos will moderate a panel of leading experts who will provide an overview of the 2020 election and how it will be carried out during the greatest health crisis in a generation. During the program, the panel will share how the U.S. plans to execute the election to make democracy work during the 2020 Presidential election despite challenges on several fronts. The scholars will discuss how misinformation, redistricting, gerrymandering, voter suppression (including mail-in ballots and voting wait times) have the potential to impact election results even in a mature democracy like the United States. The panel will also discuss how “big money” from interest groups and the Presidential debate system play a role to tip the scales in determining who becomes President. The experts will also explore the role of watchdogs and the Supreme Court in overseeing the democratic and election process and defending the U.S. Constitution. Finally, the professors will provide insights into how the outcome of ‘the most historic election in a generation’ could change U.S. domestic elections, legislation and policies in the future.

Please join the Yuen Campus team and panel of experts for a rich discussion leading up to the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election.
